Construction on a project to improve access from northbound I-5 to Garden Valley Blvd begins this Sunday, October 15, according to the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT).

The I-5, exit 125 northbound off-ramp often experiences traffic congestion, primarily due to the layout. This ramp features a left-turn lane onto Garden Valley Blvd. and a shared lane for vehicles heading straight to Mulholland Drive or making a right turn. During busy periods, the shared lane can become backed up, extending into the I-5 travel lanes.

The project aims to incorporate a designated right-turn lane at the ramp’s terminus, ensuring that right-turning drivers can proceed without being delayed by those going straight through the intersection.

The contractor will carry out various enhancements, including replacing traffic signal poles and hardware, adding new push-button pedestrian beacons, improving sidewalks and ADA curb ramps, and resurfacing the off-ramp and intersection. Additionally, a retaining wall will be constructed between the ramp and Munson Court to facilitate the new turn lane.

Most work will take place on weeknights, 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., Sunday night to Friday morning.

Construction will involve nighttime lane closures on Garden Valley Boulevard and Mulholland Drive. Please remain vigilant for construction personnel and vehicles within the work zone.

Occasional nighttime closures of the northbound ramps may be required. Advance detour instructions will be furnished for any ramp closures.

When sidewalks are closed for construction, alternate pedestrian routes will be provided.

The $2.4 million project is scheduled for completion in June 2024.
