The Oregon Department of Transportation reports that the southbound span of the Interstate Bridge will close to all traffic from 10:00 p.m. Saturday, April 18 until 6:00 a.m. Sunday, April 19.

The closure will allow crews to work on the draw span, work on the bridge lighting and carry out bridge inspections.

Southbound traffic will be directed off Interstate 5 onto State Route 14. Oregon-bound traffic should take SR 14 east to the Glenn Jackson Bridge and Interstate 205 south into to Oregon.

The closure includes the sidewalk on the southbound span but the sidewalk on the northbound span will remain open to all bicycle and pedestrian traffic.

The Interstate Bridge is jointly owned by Oregon and Washington and is maintained and operated by ODOT. The northbound span opened in 1917 and the southbound span in 1958.

Travelers should plan ahead for the September 12-20 closure of the northbound span to replace lift mechanism parts in the south tower. Expect major delays and consider alternatives to your regular commute. Visit the bridge web site for more information.
