Drivers on Interstate 5 headed to and from the Canadian border will now experience a much smoother and quieter drive.
Washington State Department of Transportation contractor crews recently put the finishing touches on repaving a 10-mile stretch of I-5 between Nulle Road and Iowa Street in both directions. The $1.3 million job was completed on-time and on-budget.
The majority of the work was between Nulle Road and just north of the North Lake Samish Drive exits in Bellingham. This area was last repaved 25 years ago.
“We’re excited to have this project wrapped up and give drivers a much better surface to drive on,” said WSDOT Project Engineer Jason Koreski. “Closing lanes is unfortunately a necessary inconvenience for this type of work, and we want to give drivers a big thank you for bearing with us while we worked to improve the highway.”
Now that this paving project has been completed, there’s only one I-5 repaving project left to wrap up this summer in the Bellingham area. Contractor crews will finish the separate paving project between Ferndale and Blaine in September.
