The Washington State Department of Transportation reports the following traffic impacts associated with the Tacoma/Pierce County I-5 HOV construction project.
All closures listed below are subject to change due to weather.
Monday, December 23
- Northbound I-5 exit to Portland Avenue will close from 11:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. Tuesday.
- One lane of northbound I-5 from McKinley Way to Port of Tacoma Road will close from 7:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Thursday, January 2
- Northbound I-5 exit to Portland Avenue will close from 11:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. Friday.
- One lane of northbound I-5 from McKinley Way to Port of Tacoma Road will close from 7:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. Friday.
Friday, January 3
- Northbound I-5 exit to Portland Avenue will close from 11:59 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Saturday.
- One lane of northbound I-5 from McKinley Way to Port of Tacoma Road will close from 10:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. Saturday.
Why are these closures necessary?
- On I-5 between Port of Tacoma Road and East L Street, contractor crews are building a new southbound I-5 Puyallup River Bridge, widening I-5 and replacing the East L Street overpass.
- Contractor crews are finishing a project that built new direct connect HOV lanes between SR 16 and I-5 in Tacoma. Those lanes are now open.
