Exit Closures, Lane Reductions and Traffic Delays for I-5 Work in Washington

The Washington State Department of Transportation reports the following traffic impacts in Interstate 5 in Pierce and Thurston Counties through Friday, April 30, 2021.

Pierce County

Thursday, April 22

  • Southbound I-5 exit to Thorne Lane will close from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. Friday.
  • Gravelly Lake Drive on-ramp to southbound I-5 will close from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. Friday.
  • Southbound I-5 will be reduced to a single lane from Gravelly Lake Drive in Lakewood to 41st Division Drive near JBLM from 10:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. Friday.
  • Northbound I-5 will be reduced to a single lane from 41st Division Drive near JBLM to Gravelly Lake Drive in Lakewood from 11:30 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. Friday.

Friday, April 23

  • Southbound I-5 will be reduced to a single lane from Gravelly Lake Drive in Lakewood to 41st Division Drive near JBLM from 11:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Saturday.
  • Northbound I-5 will be reduced to a single lane from 41st Division Drive near JBLM to Gravelly Lake Drive in Lakewood from 11:59 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Saturday.

Thursday, April 29

  • Southbound I-5 exit to SR 167 and Bay Street will close from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday.
  • One lane of southbound I-5 will close from Port of Tacoma Road to East McKinley Way from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. Friday.

Friday, April 30

  • Southbound I-5 exit to SR 167 and Bay Street will close from 11:59 p.m. to 6 a.m. Saturday.
  • One lane of southbound I-5 will close from Port of Tacoma Road to East McKinley Way from 11:59 p.m. to 7 a.m. Saturday.

Southbound I-5 exit to 24th Street East will close from 10 p.m. Tuesday, April 20 to 4 a.m. Wednesday, April 21 for guardrail repair.
Single lane closure on both directions of SR 167 near Gratzer Road on Tuesday, April 20 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m for guardrail repair.

Thurston County

Saturday, April 24

  • Northbound I-5 will be reduced to two lanes approaching the Nisqually River Bridge from 5:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Sunday, April 25

  • Northbound I-5 will be reduced to two lanes approaching the Nisqually River Bridge from 5:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
  • 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, May 4, to 12:01 a.m. Thursday, May 6
    • Maytown Safety Rest Area (southbound I-5) will close around the clock to all traffic for maintenance.
  • 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, May 11, to 12:01 a.m. Friday, May 14
    • Scatter Creek Safety Rest Area (northbound I-5) will close around the clock to all traffic for maintenance.
