The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) recently held a ribbon cutting for the new Sacramento I-5 Auxiliary Lanes Project near the Sacramento International Airport.

The $39 million project (with $22 million from the federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and $17 million from Senate Bill 1), constructed auxiliary lanes in both directions on I-5 from Natomas to SMF Sacramento International Airport, providing safer merging from on-and off-ramps and allowing motorists to exit the roadway sooner to improve traffic flow and enhance safety.

Other improvements include ramp metering at on-ramps, enhanced Intelligent Transportation System infrastructure for traveler information and new signage.
