The Washington State Department of Transportation reports that crews building a new 23-foot tall overpass that spans Interstate 5 in Lakewood have a series of overnight lane and ramp closures scheduled at the Thorne Lane interchange.
From Wednesday, December 4 through Friday, December 6, crews will install a total of 15 bridge girders on the overpass that spans the railroad, the existing southbound I-5 Thorne Lane off-and on-ramps, and all lanes of I-5. The first two nights of work will close the Thorne Lane off-and on-ramps. The third night will affect all lanes of I-5, bringing significant delays to overnight travelers.
- From 10:30 p.m. Friday, December 6 to 5:30 a.m. Saturday, December 7, both northbound and southbound I-5 will be reduced to a single lane at Thorne Lane and directed up and over the Thorne Lane off- and on-ramps.
- During the Friday night work, travelers who use I-5 through Lakewood and Joint Base Lewis-McChord are advised to delay their trips or avoid the area. WSDOT anticipates that significant backups may occur during the work.
- Law enforcement will be in place to assist with moving traffic through the ramp intersections.
