The American Automobile Association (AAA) forecasts a record-breaking holiday season with an estimated 119.3 million Americans set to travel 50 miles or more from December 21 to January 1. This projection exceeds the previous record set in 2019 by 64,000 travelers, highlighting a significant uptick in holiday travel compared to last year. Stacey Barber, AAA Travel’s Vice President, anticipates heightened travel activity around Christmas, emphasizing the appeal of creating lasting memories with loved ones during this festive period.

The majority of travelers, approximately 107 million, will opt for road trips, leveraging lower gas prices and the flexibility they offer. Key rental markets such as Denver, Las Vegas, and Miami are poised for heightened demand, with peak pickup and return times anticipated around December 20-21 and post-Christmas.

With the increased holiday travel comes AAA’s emphasis on safety, urging drivers to adhere to posted speed limits and prioritize alertness behind the wheel. Detailed road trip safety tips are provided to ensure travelers navigate the roads safely amid heightened congestion.
