The Oregon Department of Transportation reports that traffic backups onto Interstate 5 from the south Medford interchange will soon be much less frequent, thanks to planned upgrades to the southbound Exit 27 off-ramp that begin the night of Sunday, April 25.
Southbound off-ramp traffic widths will be restricted for three weeks, April 25 – May 14, for a ramp widening project. When complete the wider ramp will accommodate more traffic and provide longer dual left turn lanes.
From April 25 through May 14 drivers may experience peak morning and afternoon ramp delays, which may reach back to the interstate travel lanes. Night construction will be behind concrete barrier. Barrier will be in place for about half the project.
Savvy drivers who use the exit regularly should adjust their commute or travel times, or explore carpool options.
Design and construction of the project is being paid directly by Pacific Retirement Services, the parent of the Rogue Valley Manor to contractor Knife River Materials. The project will help offset future Manor development in southeast Medford. When complete, the southbound off-ramp will be about about six to 24 feet wider for a length of 300 feet.
This is the first modification to the south Medford interchange since it was completed in 2009.
