Northern California I-5 Construction Update

The California Department of Transportation reports the following I-5 construction update. The information below is for California District 2 planned I-5 lane closures only.

• I-5 Klamath River Bridge – Work in Progress
  A project north of Yreka is in progress. It includes widening, bridge rail upgrade, and undercrossing. Northbound and southbound traffic on Interstate 5 currently is under a 55 mph speed reduction with single lane closures in effect for both directions. Construction operations will continue throughout the winter unless extreme winter weather prevents Caltrans and its contractors to perform corresponding jobs.
• I-5 Collier Rest Area – Water Treatment Facility
  Among other construction improvements, a water treatment facility is being installed in the Randolph Collier Rest Area by I-5 north of Yreka. The rest area will remain open through the winter with minor impacts to traffic on Interstate 5.
• I-5 South Weed Project – Work in Progress
  Between Weed/Mount Shasta (60+ miles North of Redding). Alternating lane closures. Expect minor delays and intermittent ramp closures due to construction operations including paving, striping and other, for about 12 miles, between Weed and Mt. Shasta. Construction operations will continue throughout the winter unless extreme winter weather prevents Caltrans and its contractors to perform corresponding jobs.
• I-5 Shasta Viaduct – Work in Progress
  Southbound, 16 miles north of Redding. The Shasta Viaduct project on I-5 Sidehill will replace the existing bridge with an 800 ft long bridge over a 400 ft long arch. Motorists driving southbound are asked to slow down and follow the signs for one lane closure to the left. Motorists driving northbound won’t be affected by this project. Construction operations will continue throughout the winter unless extreme winter weather prevents Caltrans and its contractors to perform corresponding jobs.
