In summer 2017, the Oregon Department of Transportation will repair and resurface two ramps at the Interstate 5 Morrison Bridge interchange and the I-5 bridge over the Rose Quarter Transit Center. The project also will replace the median barrier along I-5 from the Rose Quarter to north of the Hawthorne Bridge. The new barrier will be 10 inches taller than the existing barrier to improve safety of the highway.
When I-5 construction begins in May 2017, there will construction and nighttime noise. Noise will come from heavy equipment, construction trucks, beeping noise when construction vehicles are in reverse (a requirement by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration), and equipment such as concrete saws and drills.
Working at night is necessary to keep daytime traffic flowing on the heavily traveled freeway.
Lane and ramp closures for I-5 construction will take place from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on weekdays and from 11 p.m. to 9 a.m. on weekends. There will be no daytime lane or ramp closures.
Impacts to I-5 & connections to I-84
No full closures of I-5 will take place. This project will require nighttime lane closures on I-5 during bridge and median barrier work.
Ramp closures & detour information
Work on ramps at the Morrison Interchange and work on I-5 will require nighttime ramp closures. Only one ramp will be closed at a time. The impacted ramps and detour information will be provided on this project page soon.
