Construction on Washington I-5 HOV Lanes Mean Lane Closures

The Washington State Department of Transportation reports that two projects, I-5 – M Street to Portland Avenue – HOV & I-5 – Portland Avenue to Port of Tacoma Road – Northbound HOV, will result in lane closures this week.

These two projects lay the foundation for new HOV lanes on I-5 in Tacoma and northbound into Fife.  These projects are located on Interstate 5 near the Tacoma Dome between M St. to Portland Ave. from milepost 132.8 to 135.2, and northbound I-5 between East Portland Avenue and Port of Tacoma Road.

Lane closures
Drivers can also anticipate night single- and double-lane closures on both northbound and southbound I-5 between L Street and the Port of Tacoma Road throughout the week.

Monday, March 28

• Northbound Interstate 5 collector-distributor exit to northbound Interstate 705 will close from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day.
• Southbound I-5 exit to southbound State Route 7 will close from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day.
• Northbound SR 7 exit to northbound I-705 will close from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day.

Tuesday, March 29

• Northbound I-5 collector-distributor exit to northbound I-705 will close from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day.
• Southbound I-5 exit to southbound SR 7 will close from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day.
• Northbound SR 7 exit to northbound I-705 will close from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day.

Wednesday, March 30

• Northbound I-5 collector-distributor exit to northbound I-705 will close from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day.
• Southbound I-705 on-ramps to northbound I-5 and southbound SR 7 will close from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day.

Thursday, March 31

• Southbound I-705 on-ramps to northbound I-5 and southbound SR 7 will close from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day.

Extended ramp closure
Pacific Avenue on-ramp to southbound I-5 will remain closed until mid-April.
